Dancing only being allowed at weddings joins being allowed to drink in a pub while sitting , but not standing, and being able to picnic with 4 others as long as you don’t drink alcohol, as my favourite absurd directives from the various state Chief Medical Officers during 2021.
The WA government differs from the other Australian state governments only by the severity of the fines (probably with the exception of Victoria!). Here in Queensland, we have our own battles as the vax mandate rules for hospitality businesses all came into effect on 17 Dec.
Today, I was part of a support group at a cafe in Ormeau (about half an hour south of Brisbane) that refused to implement customer restrictions re jab status. Yesterday they had a visit from the police, and a fine, with threats to return today to close them down if they did not mend their ways. Today, we had an organised group of 300+ people standing outside - the cops drove past a few times early in the day, then abandoned their attempts (for now). The cafe has been doing a roaring trade, and today ran out of product early so closed at noon for a well deserved Christmas break.
There are at least 2 other businesses here being targeted to be closed down before Xmas - I think the cops (and government) want to set an example, so as to intimidate other businesses into complying. But that is all it is - intimidation.
Today, I was proud to be an Aussie – because it is small, local efforts like this that will win out in the end. It felt more useful and productive, just showing up there, than joining a protest rally waving placards (though they have their place too). But this had a tangible result, and it felt good. These are ordinary Aussies, some jabbed (because the coercion has been fierce) and some not... young people and old, parents with their children, black and white and whatever - all peaceful and positive, called to be there because if we don't stand up now, this is just going to keep getting worse and it will never end. It was a way to show the cops, and the government, that people have had enough and are not going to take any more.
Good on you Mara for standing your ground. I know there are individual groups who are fighting. I went to a rally here in Perth some weeks back and there were 50,000 fighting for their rights. My embarrassment is that a govenment of a supposedly, liberal democracy would do this to its people for a viral illness with a very high survival rate. I know other countries have done similar, but we don’t live in other countries. I’m 75 and still pay my taxes, so I expect some respect from my government, not hysterical, unscientific ramblings.
Of course, we are no longer living in a Western liberal democracy. There are other names for it. We don’t have to go too far back in history to recognize what it is.
Of course, when I say I am proud to be an Aussie, I am not talking about our traitorous government! And I think it is important to keep pushing this point: our governments (state and federal) no longer represent the will of the people (if they ever did).
We will see what happens in the coming federal election next year...

Well the virus knows the difference. Didn't you know?
I believe we are about to find out the extent of this bullshit. The world has had enough!
I think we're getting there.
Folks in America, at least in Oklahoma, are totally fed up. Most of them anyway. There are still some zombies.

We are claiming back our power, little by little.

I do believe the minor parties will have a big turn out.
