Well! You got me on a deep dive in the map. So does Route 1 go all the way around the perimeter? I tried to map a route all the way around and in my rudimentary calculation - looks like it would take 135 hours to get all the way around Australia (straight driving so that’s unlikely) - so many parks and bush land. Some towns say there’s no marked road to get there along the NW corner! Is that true?

Highway 1 goes all the way around Australia. It is paved however, in places the quality may be lacking. I've driven across Australia and back. It takes 3 full days to Sydney (about 30 hours). So if you did the circumference, yes, it would probably take you about the number of hours that you cited. It's a long coastline!

Wow, so interesting!The first beach photo especially seems so unusual because as things recede, it’s like water - and then rock that is the end of the earth! How does the lake exist at such a high plateau? Spring fed?
