Trump himself was close to the exact opposite of the “reincarnated Hitler” that the media portrayed him as - the gulf between that portrayal and reality was a wide chasm. Trump was a dumb, bumbling doofus; a fat, lazy boomer who wanted to sit around watching TV for up to 8 hours a day and call into television stations, feud with Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski over petty grievances; to eat fast food and play golf and to tweet mean things with no follow through or action behind it. He betrayed his supporters at every turn; Charlottesville, 1/6, and plenty of others. His own campaign staff were blocked from positions in the administration in 2017 after never-Trumper Johnny de Stefano was put in charge of hiring. Not to mention that his daughter was a converted Jew and his grandchildren were Jewish!

For the whole world to see how this bumbling doofus was treated for four years while he sat back and absorbed it all, doing nothing illegal and nothing unsavory other than using language unbecoming of a president, to see the whole apparatus of the government weaponized against this man and how coordinated it all was — it was an inadvertent gift from a clown to America, perhaps the biggest gift he could have given America short of a successful challenge to globohomo. America arguably wasn’t ready for such a fundamental change at that moment in time. History will look back at the Trump presidency as the moment that conclusively revealed the existence of the deep state for all to see, and it can never be put back in the box.

Trump will also forever be a symbol of white historic America because of his shocking 2016 election victory, which is why the establishment will always hate him and try to destroy him (and set up a replacement puppet in Ron DeSantis ) no matter how much he flails about helplessly and pathetically post-presidency with actions such as : https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FkCAjTtVEAEn4Wr?format=jpg&name=small

I agree. I don't think Trump was anywhere near as bad as he was portrayed by mainstream media, and he did introduce some good policies. Including winding down the overseas US war machine.

However, he certainly did not show himself as the hero his supporters claim.

There are 3 things that I think are pretty big, counting against him as far as I am concerned:

1) his overall poor handling of the covid issues, including in particular his pushing of the "vaccines".

2) he surrounded himself with bad people (like Fauci) - who his supporters blame for all the bad stuff. Yet you would expect a successful businessman to have better judgement of people...

3) he did nothing for Julian Assange, not even a question or word of support.

And yes, more recently, his attempts to lampoon de Santis leave a very sour taste.

I didn't know about his support for the transgender policies, but that is a further strike (because I agree that normalisation of gender dysphoria is a very, very sinister thing).

Well, nobody much cares what we Aussies think - we barely get any say in our own political system. But there you are, those are my thoughts.

Very well put Maria. It used to be that what America did had a vital impact for us in Australia. We’re so entwine with China now that is where our future lies —rightly or wrongly.

Oh, it is still the case that US policies have a huge effect here. Foreign policy in particular. Australia is just a US lapdog when it comes to foreign policy - we have none of our own, except to hope that the US will come to our rescue if needed.

And they will - as long as it serves their own interests.

Albo has been invited to the upcoming NATO summit to talk about Russia & Ukraine - even though we are not part of NATO and that war has nothing to do with us.

And we will follow the US blindly into the upcoming war with China over Taiwan, if/when it happens.

I'm in the States; and though I still love my country; I also ABHOR so MANY of the things that so MANY of the 'leaders' of this country has done to people in other countries; as well as what they have done to people here, for SO long.

It saddens me; it angers me.

My truest and deepest apologies for all of our sins. I read a comment recently on some site by someone who said that they were a veteran who served many years in the military here; and that after all that they had seen and heard; they came to the realization that; as he put it, "America is the biggest terrorist group that ever existed."

What a gut-punch that was. But I'm afraid that there is FAR more truth in that statement than the majority of Americans would like to believe.

The sad thing about it; besides the obvious; is that almost 100% of the atrocities that were done to/in other countries by "America" was unknown to American citizens. We were not told what 'we' did; if we were told anything at all; it was lies. We had no say in any of it; no vote; nothing. So it's ALWAYS 'we the people' who are blamed for the HORRIFIC decisions made by those in power; we get the black eye from it. It's sad.

Anyway; sorry for chiming in. I just want you to know how HORRIBLY sorry I and so MANY others are for all of the things 'we' have done wrong. It makes us sick to our stomach's. Sigh.

And we are so sad for all that has been going on in your beautiful country. It saddens me greatly. But I'm afraid that this scenario; all that is happening in this country and in yours; is something that will only increase and spread to all others; because 'the powers that be' all collude with one another; I'm sure; telling us that we should hate one another; all while they make their nefarious plans for the whole lot of us; and sit; like earthly kings; dividing the spoils amongst themselves. Sad; very sad.

Cammie, we are all terrorists in some way. When Covid hit, did we in Australia have to implement the same policies that so many others did? The government terrorized the populace.

The British colonialists did the same thing that the U.S. has done, all in the name of “democracy”. The Chinese terrorize the Tibetans and the Uighurs. We’re all terrorists in different forms.

Then there is the other side of the coin. Post WW2, the U.S. poured tons of money with the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe.

I can recall the morning after 9/11, I was at the reception desk in my practice and an Australian patient said to this long time American patient, “America deserved it”. That was totally uncalled for. Otherwise we get into accusations and recriminations and it never ends.

Thank you so much Ely for your graciousness; it is greatly appreciated.

I do know that every country; every (Or almost every) leader has committed some atrocities; within their own countries and/or in others.

I'm SURE that WE do in fact 'deserve' MUCH retribution for all the wrongs we have done. But as you shared; I have ALSO heard from people in other countries who have said "Where would we be without all of the aid and support of America?" I heard someone say that it's amazing to them how Americans always give, give, give; even in times when we are not doing well economically. I think that's the other side for me; is that we DO try; as AMERICANS; not the leaders; to donate; to do; to help; to give; to everyone around the world; but are hated by many at the same time. If I had one 'whiny' complaint; it would be that.

Anyway; I thank you for pouring grace upon me; I truly do. Thank you for that.

I pray for Australia; that it might yet be saved. Let it be Lord; please, let it be.

Cammie, I have visited the US many times, and lived in California for 6 months (back when California was still a lovely place). And I met many wonderful people, and I know that Americans are no more responsible for their government policies than we Australians are (which is to say, we do carry some of the responsibility from a general, permissive point of view, but individually have very little power to change the way things work).

Thank you for sharing your own feelings and thoughts - we the people across all countries are more united than they would like us to be!

I feel a little weepy; to be honest; for the undeserved grace I've been shown here. Thank you Mara for also sharing grace with me.

I'm glad that you met many decent people here. I've had the opportunity to visit a few other countries in the past; and in speaking with people in those countries I found that many of them harbor no ill will to Americans; but as some said, it's our GOVERNMENT that they have issues with. So do WE!

I HATE the fact that world leaders have played up the cultural differences between people from all countries; causing us to believe that those differences are insurmountable; so we should view each other with suspicion at the least; fear and loathing and hatred at the most.

I agree wholeheartedly; that ALL people are FAR more the same than 'they' would have us believe. We all have the same basic needs of life; nothing changes that. We ALL belong to ONE race; the human race.

Thank you so much for making the time to share; I truly appreciate it and your kindness.
