What has happened to America? On so many levels, the country is in disarray. In a December 2021 poll by Trafalgar, more than three-fourths of Americans believe their country is "decaying".
Much of the malaise afflicting the U.S. is a dumbing down of its society. It is not just America that is suffering, but many of the so-called western democracies.
Some weeks ago, I had dinner with a longstanding friend. He had several businesses that relied on manufacturing in China. He travelled extensively to China, met a lady, and married. They told me something a little bit surprising; China is more capitalistic than America.
I knew that China was overtaking America as the largest economy, but my friends emphasized an economic zeal in China, and people are encouraged to succeed. My friends emphasized how rigorous the educational system is in China compared to the U.S. or Australia.
While the U.S. has descended into teaching much about climate change, transgenderism, critical race theory and "social justice", the Chinese emphasize mathematics, engineering and the physical sciences. There is a significant disparity between the Chinese commitment to education and today's America.
In America about 41% of fourth graders and 34% of eighth graders scored proficient in math in 2019. Meanwhile, only 34% of eighth graders were proficient in reading.
Clearly, China is winning the battle.
While American corporations are tripping over themselves to secure business with China––with conditions––they have given up their loyalty to their home country.
Companies like Amazon, Apple, Dell, Facebook, GE, Google, Intel, and Microsoft are heavily integrated into China's surveillance state and military. American security is at risk due to China's ability to infiltrate the U.S. military and corporate structure and its aggressive student spying program in American universities.
The Chinese are masters at schmoozing those in the West who seek favours. I saw this first hand at an annual Chinese-Australian Ball here in Perth about 10 years ago. China has substantial joint venture developments with Australian resource companies. During the speeches, tremendous praise was heaped on China for its involvement in Australian investment. As my wife likes to say, "West Australia is China's sandpit". China may need us to a certain extent, but if we alienated China and they stopped buying from us, our economy would tank. So we dutifully comply and even give up some of our infrastructure to China, like the Port of Darwin.
My friend also told me that the Chinese have the freedom to come and go as they please, including travelling overseas. The one caveat is don't overly criticize the government. My friend’s wife has family who still live in China. They are essentially free to live their lives as we do, but they know their boundaries. Yes, politically, China is a communist regime, so the caveat is don't rock the boat.
America tolerates so much dissent that its cities deteriorated in 2020 when BLM and Antifa destroyed many inner cities with few relative arrests.
Another area where America is self-destructing is on its southern border. Illegal immigrants are coming in at the rate of 1.9 million a year, mainly across the lengthy Texas border. Politicians seem in a state of inertia about doing anything about it. Criminal gangs have free reign to bring in drugs with their associated crime waves, affecting many American citizens.
Recently what is very disturbing is how America has taken up Chinese-style censorship. Even the White House recently urged that Spotify should censor Joe Rogan. What was his crime? He had two brilliant doctors who gave a counter-narrative to the Covid establishment. Similarly, publications like the New York Times have called for more censorship. It's crept up on America; it’s now adopting China's modus operandi.
In fact, "freedom" is becoming a rather loose commodity in the "land of the free". Now from the Department of Homeland Security comes a very disturbing advisory:
"The United States remains in a heightened threat environment fueled by several factors, including an online environment filled with false or misleading narratives and conspiracy theories, and other forms of mis- dis- and mal-information … For example, there is widespread online proliferation of false or misleading narratives regarding unsubstantiated widespread election fraud and COVID-19."
America is well and truly engaged in the old Soviet-style "dezinformatsiya", where you spread alleged information that is actually false.
Now, if you say something contrary to the prevailing Covid doctrine, you may be considered a terrorist threat. If you're opposed to the governmental-pharmaceutical complex that wants you "vaccinated", you may be accused of engaging in some kind of a seditious act.
So how far different is the U.S. becoming politically from China? We may ask the same question of countries like Australia and New Zealand with their outrageous Chinese-style lockdowns and mandates?
For America, the problem starts at the top. A U.S. President like Biden would have been in big trouble in years gone by. He would be charged with peddling influence to the Chinese in return for cash through his family members.
Peter Schweizer's new book Red Handed explains how many high profile politicians and others have been co-opted by the Chinese.
Mr Schweizer's 2020 documentary, Riding The Dragon, demonstrates how the Chinese have been able to influence people like Biden's son, Hunter. The result is the Bidens became wealthy while playing right into the hands of China. You can watch the documentary below. It's free, but you'll need to put up with a few commercials.
It's no wonder that Joe Biden stated in 2019 when asked about China overtaking the U.S.:
"China is going to eat our lunch? Come on, man, I mean, you know, they're not bad folks. But guess what? They're not competition for us," he added.
I would add something to that, Joe. China is not only eating your lunch; they are "cleaning your clock".
The world is for China's taking, and they probably think it's just too easy as they see America slowly but inexorably destroying itself.
Disaray is a very "nice" word to use for the current America. Pathetic, mindless sheep seems a little more appropriate. However, I firmly believe that when anything goes too far a certain mindless, distructive and tyranical direction, the scales will tip back. Look at history and wait for it...
You are very perceptive and quite correct regarding the rot and decay of the USA. It is very depressing as an American to be living through this time of decay all the while not being able to do a darn thing about it.
The odd thing is that so many people in the nation are aware of this and are concerned, probably a majority of people. The thing is, none of the leadership is interested in doing the right thing to change course. Perhaps all of our leadership is getting paid off by big business and/or the Chinese.
