Why We Are Not Healthy Today And What To Do About It
We all want Health, and many spend much of their lives searching for it. Most people, however, are searching for an illusion. Is Health an illusion? Not really, but what most people think it is, is an illusion. The perception is that feeling fine is Health; if there are no symptoms, a person is healthy. When we use words, we must define our terminology.
So what is Health? The “official” definition, according to the World Health Organization, is that Health is ‘a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’. This definition was initially stipulated in 1946.
Another way to think of Health is a state of ‘Ease’, which makes the opposite of Health, ‘Dis-ease’––a lack of ease. You’ll notice that there is no mention of symptoms because symptoms don’t necessarily indicate the presence or absence of disease.
In many cases, symptoms or disease processes are like an iceberg. Most of the underlying conditions are what you don’t see, or there are often no outward signs or symptoms. The experience of many people with the Covid vaccines with Sudden Adult Death Syndrome exemplifies this very thing. At other times experiencing symptoms means the body is doing its job and changing its environment to bring things into balance.
Most people operate on the assumption that having symptoms are necessarily bad and being free of them means everything is fine. However, even the medical profession understands that being free of symptoms doesn’t mean there isn’t a ticking time bomb in your body. An example is blood pressure. High blood pressure can be asymptomatic but be a precursor for a heart attack.
A fundamental question we must ask ourselves is whether we are healthy? There is an excellent argument that while we are living longer, we are sicker than ever. I am not just talking about older people suffering from old age. It’s children who are inflicted with so much chronic disease today. In the 1950s, we didn’t see many sick children.
In December 2022, the Australian government released The Burden Of Disease Study. Look at the category breakdown:
Look at what else the report said:
“Back pain & problems were the leading cause of non-fatal burden in 2022.”
We live longer thanks to technological advances, but we are actually sicker as a society. In Australia, 11.7 million people are living with chronic diseases. That is 47% of the population. The reason for this situation is because of what we do and what we don’t do. Underlying all this is one reason for dis-ease; a body not functioning correctly. So what is the primary cause? It comes down to two words. Stress and Iatrogenesis.
