Everything that happens in our lives has an effect. That effect, in itself, is a cause of a new effect. If we look at it from a philosophical point of view, cause and effect are just one. However, in our natural world, we separate them. In a way, we create blame.
Suppose your father physically abused you, and you have physical or psychological effects. In that case, you act out on others because of that abuse, and then you are the new cause for another effect. So we can go on and on, where cause and effect are in a perpetual dance.
So, every effect is a cause, and every cause is an effect unless we go back to the first cause. If you are religious, you may consider the first CAUSE to be God. If you don’t believe in God, you may feel the first cause was the birth of the UNIVERSE. Here again, you might drive yourself crazy asking the question, “Well, what caused God?” I can remember asking my mother this as a child. The question was never really answered.
When dealing with human health, medicine mainly deals with effects. Few doctors look at the causes. That is why when most people see a medical doctor, they will come out with a prescription item to treat the effect of something gone wrong in the body.
We have seen evidence throughout the ages of when the treatment of effects has led to new effects, or what we call iatrogenic disease. This is a doctor-caused disease. We saw the most dramatic evidence of this with Covid. A product was supposed to solve one problem but created so many others. In the past, many lawsuits have resulted from effects that have seriously damaged people.
There are causes we can do something about, while others we can no longer alter. If you had a fall when you were seven, and it damaged your neck and skull and gave you a concussion, the effects of that have been set in motion and can affect your health for the rest of your life.
Chiropractic attempts to deal with the causes and correction of vertebral subluxations, which cause nerve interference. However, because these are often present without symptoms, this cause has detrimental effects, which don’t get addressed until the effect becomes serious.
If you have a dimmer switch or rheostat in a room, you can diminish the brightness of a light globe with that switch. It still glows, but there is a dimming effect. You can massage the light globe, give it an injection or talk to it, but really, you are dealing with an effect. The idea is to turn the switch fully on and, with it, the power.
We must acknowledge that subluxations of the spine in themselves are effects due to causes of a physical, mental or chemical nature. I will show you a few cases demonstrating how devastating the effects of spinal conditions can be to the body.
