Seeing A Chiropractor Early Can Avoid Years Of Health Turmoil

Why should you go to a chiropractor if your back doesn’t hurt? If someone believes that chiropractic is just about back pain, there would be no rationale for seeing a chiropractor.

Another question is, “Why take a baby to a chiropractor if they don’t get back pain?” Of course, a baby couldn’t tell you if their back hurts. I heard the question last night. We were having dinner with friends, and the other couple there were dismayed as to the need to take a baby to a chiropractor. They, themselves, had never been to a chiropractor. If going to a chiropractor was for back pain, then yes, there would be no reason to take a baby to a chiropractor.

What I did was relate the fact that babies often suffer from birth trauma, whether due to instrument births or rough manual delivery. My wife, who is a doctor, explained how she had referred babies in distress and could vouch for the changes with chiropractic care. When I was born, I suffered an injury; more about that later.

In my last full-time practice, I had an entire wall with photos of children and babies who had come into the practice. This is not unusual; chiropractors have looked after families for many decades.

A condition that can affect babies is Infantile Colic. It is generally thought of as related to gastrointestinal issues such as excessive gas or gut irritability. It is associated with excessive crying day, night or both. The parents often lose sleep, which may be why they eventually try a chiropractor. Again, what does this have to do with chiropractic?

The better question is whether spinal dysfunction can interfere with the nervous system. If the answer is yes, there is a rationale for chiropractic care at any age. The dysfunction I’m talking about is the vertebral subluxation.
