Did you see World War 2 veteran Willam Pekrul at the RNC Convention some weeks back? You can see his full speech here. Pekrul, now 98, fought in the war in 1944 and 45; despite his age, he is full of vigor. While he is old, he doesn't think old. Compare that to Joe Biden, who is 81. Of course, no two people are alike, and Biden is cognitively impaired. Still, whatever your age, you have the potential to be and do amazing things. 

You've seen those people; they think old and consequently act old. Some are old at 60, while others are young and vibrant at 80. Attitude has a lot to do with what you manifest externally.

I know people younger than me who I try to motivate to get more active; these are people who don't walk and are essentially couch potatoes. I suggest walking around the block for the first week, then walking a kilometer for the next week, up it by 500 meters each subsequent week, and so on. The response we often get is, "I know." The "I know" excuse is a common way to deflect from having to take up a new activity.

Many people enter retirement with trepidation, while others transition seamlessly and never look back. The options today in retirement are endless. We all have choices. Some plan ahead, and things work out just fine, but for some, this new period, despite the planning, leads to unhappiness, boredom, and loss of purpose.
