Is This The USA? No, It's The United States Soviet Style

This July 4 is a day to be celebrated by Americans. It's Independence Day. From the input that I have received from some of my American friends, independence, freedom, and individuality are under threat. The day is meant to commemorate the signing of the Declaration Of Independence. This was about freeing Americans from the British Monarchy. It was the perceived tyranny of the monarchy that Americans fought against in the War of Independence.

Today, America has its own form of tyranny that is being directed at its own citizens. Since Covid, much of the world has been engaged in tyrannical behaviour. However, America, the bastion of freedom, is now coming to resemble a Soviet-Style country.

The January 6 hearings about the alleged insurrection are a farce. A demonstration that got out of hand has resulted in innocent people being put in jail in solitary confinement for alleged crimes. People who did not even enter the Capital building were arrested and held without bail. Is this America? Where is the freedom when a show trial is carried out that does not even allow cross-examination of the witnesses before the House Committee?

The signs of what is happening today were present in January 2019 when Roger Stone, a Trump associate, was arrested. He was handcuffed at gunpoint while in pyjamas at 6:00 am by some two dozen FBI agents. All they had to do was knock on the door. Instead, they carried on like he was a terrorist. What was his crime? Lying to Congress––something that Congress is known for––and witness tampering.

More recently, Peter Navarro, President Trump's Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Trade and Manufacturing Policy, was also arrested at his home for refusing to testify before the sham Congressional committee. He was put in leg irons and handcuffed again by multiple FBI agents. I was going to document a list of other such inappropriate behaviour. Still, Tucker Carlson did an opening segment a few days ago on this topic that pre-empted my newsletter, so I will let the video below speak for itself.

So America is starting to resemble the ex-Soviet Union rather than the Constitutional Republic in the Declaration of Independence. If America continues down that path, it will have direct consequences for the rest of us; even smug Australians who look down on America.

So despite the current travails of the USA, let's hope that freedom does win out.
