One of the events I always remember is the great blizzard that hit Buffalo, New York, on January 28, 1977. I was living in Toronto, Ontario, at the time when we had next to no snow. Buffalo, only 90 miles away, had snow and high winds causing snow drifts metres high. Cars and even some homes were buried. The city was shut down and paralyzed for several days. This was a weather-induced non-Covid lockdown.
Buffalo has always been known as the snow capital of America. The city sits in Western New York, on the windward side of Lake Ontario. It cops what is known as ‘lake-effect’ snow. Winds blow from the north and pick up moisture from Lake Ontario, accentuating snowfalls on Buffalo. Toronto, being on the leeward side, often remains unscathed.
The existing narrative from global warming enthusiasts was that cold was a thing of the past. Some even stated that we would have winters without snow in the northern hemisphere. Never mind that the ‘experts’ predicted global cooling and even the possibility of a new Ice Age. That morphed into warming and, ultimately, climate change. Now we have history repeating itself.
Australia is not immune to the cold with one of the coldest springs on record.
We have had a very cold spring in the southern part of Western Australia, unusually so. We’ve had many cloudy days. Perth is reputed to be the sunshine capital of Australia. It sure hasn’t felt that way. Usually, this time of the year, it’s day after day of sunshine with warm days. This is the coldest I can remember since I first immigrated to Australia. Does that mean the climate is changing? Nope. It’s just a variation. The weather changes; some years are wetter and colder, and others are drier and sunnier.
The Antarctic station Concordia recently recorded its coldest temperature ever of -60C.
So we’re told that the earth is warming due to increased CO2 emissions. If this is warming, I’d like to see cooling. So if CO2 causes warming, then I’d like more of it. I prefer the warmth to the cold. I’m sure the plants also prefer more CO2, which is food for them.
The earth is a dynamic planet. It’s also affected by the sun, which itself has variations. The sunspot cycle affects our climate, with the emission of solar radiation, including solar flares. There is no climate emergency. This is just a way to create more hysteria and fear. It’s shameful how educational institutions have programmed the young about catastrophic climate change. There are, however, many scientists who are not buying it. These include Nobel Prize laureate Professor Ivar Giaeve and noted Atmospheric Physicist Dr Richard Lindzen.
Notice how Greta Thunberg is smirking. Does she know that it’s all a con? Is she, as the poster girl for the climate change cartel laughing all the way to the bank?
Yup.
I was 21 in 1977 living in a snow belt in Ontario in Guelph.
My girl friend went to Western U in London.
We drove from Guelph to London often and we lived in Oshawa area.
Big snow everywhere.
We drove in the Buffalo snow many years as we visited America often back before 9-11.
Ha ha! Maybe because our friend Bill is blocking out the sun! OMYGOODNESS you can’t make this stuff up - can you!?!?
