War is terrible for climate change. After all, to my knowledge, weaponry like fighter jets and missiles don't run off wind turbines or solar panels. War is even worse when you ostracize a significant supplier of your energy needs.
Undoubtedly, Europe can refrain from indulging in the utilization of fossil fuels. They're going "green". Aren't they getting to net zero by 2030, or is it 2035? I don't know; the goalposts keep changing. To make sure, they're following America's lead and sanctioning Russia since the war in Ukraine broke out—or are they?
Oops! Wait a minute, are my eyes deceiving me? Europe is buying more Russian natural gas than before the war. Well, this is a really inconvenient truth. As this article states, Europe is having difficulty getting off fossil fuels.
"But a greater reliance on LNG inevitably leads back to Russia, which is seeking to triple exports from its Yamal LNG facility in Siberia. That's a problem for the bloc's stated goal to completely eliminate its consumption of Russian fossil fuels by 2027."
Germany is in a pickle because someone blew up the Nordstream pipeline supplying cheap natural gas from Russia to Germany. Based on his sources, American investigative journalist Seymour Hersh is confident that the U.S. sabotaged the pipeline. So now Germany will be buying more expensive American gas.
What most people don't let you know is that Russia is in a better financial and military position than before the war.
This all could have been avoided: the war and all its ramifications. The West refused to listen to Russian concerns about NATO's encroachment on Russia's border. Even in early spring 2022, while Moscow and Kyiv were engaged in talks, U.K.'s Boris Johnson convinced Zelenskyy to quit those talks.
U.K. Premier Reportedly Pressured Ukrainian President to Quit Peace Talks with Russia
"I made clear today that the United Kingdom stands unwaveringly with them in this ongoing fight," and we are in it for the long run", the right-wing British leader said. It's easy to play with other people's lives.
"U.S. actions have clarified that Washington's priority is to weaken Russia, not protect Ukrainians."
So, the West looks very foolish now. The war has gone badly for Ukraine, and the U.K. and the U.S. keep pushing it to what end?
Leaving aside the devastation to Ukraine, including half a million deaths, where is the concern about Europe weaning itself off fossil fuels? We made Europe dependent on Russia and, by extension, China. They have also created a counter to America's international influence: the BRICS countries—growing and counting.
Europe needs to be more concerned about the continuing escalation of the war, where a nuclear confrontation could be on the cards. Any atomic exchange would make so-called catastrophic climate change look like a walk in the park.
Russia has checkmated the West. How is the "climate change" movement going now for Europe? Not too well. As a dear friend of ours, now deceased, used to say, "We in the West are stupid".
When it comes down to practicality, Europe will use fossil fuels to avoid an economic collapse.
Another excellent read and a terrible situation. Please keep sharing this important news with the world.
